Obituary for George Robert "Bob" Lauck

George Robert “'Bob” Lauck, 93, of Wellsburg, WV, died peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Acuity Specialty Hospital, Steubenville, OH.

Bob was born on November 20th, 1921 in Wellsburg, WV to Robert and Cecelia Lauck. He was the eldest of 11 children.

Bob graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1939 along with 9 of his brothers and sisters. In 1942, he was drafted into the US Army and sent to Fort Knox, Kentucky for training in the light tank corps in the 1st Armored Division. He was a veteran of combat in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal. After returning from the war to Wellsburg, he met and soon married Margaret Evelyn Parent. They raised four children who remember him as a kind and gentle father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. He retired with an unblemished record after driving a truck for 25 years with Starvaggi Trucking. Bob was accomplished at being the patriarch for his family and extended family. He was always “there” for them and gave his time and talents without reservation. He was an active and dedicated member of St. John the Evangelist Church, the Wellsburg AARP, Brooke County Veterans Memorial Foundation and Brooke Cemetery Board. Bob was named 2012 Brooke County Veterans of the Year by the Brooke Veterans Memorial Foundation. He is remembered for organizing, cooking and serving at the St. John's Mother's Day Breakfast for the past four decades, serving as First Ward Councilman, and serving lunch to kids at St. John's School.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years Margaret Evelyn Parent Lauck; three brothers Paul, Harry and Thomas Lauck of Wellsburg, WV and Earl Lauck of Eaton Rapids, MI.

Bob is survived by his four children, Catherine Lauck Opaskey of Denton, Texas; Eugene Robert Lauck and his wife, Barbara of Monaca, PA; Patricia Ann Lauck Roberts and her husband, Bill of Fredericksburg, VA; Rita Ann Lauck Johnson and her husband Frank, of Wellsburg, WV; two brothers, Dick and Howard Lauck of Wellsburg; four sisters, Margaret Diserio Lauck of Follansbee, Betty Lauck Trimmer, Dorothy Lauck Green and Ruth Lauck Stein of Wellsburg; as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren with over 50 nieces and nephews in the area.

Family and friends will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm with Vigil Service at 7:00 PM at Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551, where funeral will commence on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 9:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in Wellsburg, Father Dan Pisano, celebrating.

Interment will follow at Brooke Cemetery in Wellsburg, WV with Military Honors by the WV Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
