Obituary for William M Taylor

William M. Taylor, 88, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away at 8:56 AM on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his residence under the care of his family, Brooke County Senior Center and Amedisys Hospice.

William was born on August 24, 1926 in Wellsburg, WV. He was the son of the late Hallie G. and Clara Wilda (Forbes) Taylor.

William served proudly in the United States Navy in the Seabees as a 2nd Class Seaman in World War II. He received numerous medals including the victory medal of WWII and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. William was a graduate of Wellsburg High School. He retired from Weirton Steel Corp as a Roller in #9 Tandem. William was an active member of Wellsburg Christian Church where he served as a Choir member, Deacon, Elder, Chairman of the Board, and a Trustee.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys Mechling, two brothers, Howard Foster and Calvin G. Taylor, a son-in-law, Bill Taylor, and two nephews, Tom Mechling and Michael Cipoletti.

William is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Audrey (Wolfe) Taylor of Wellsburg, WV, five children, Esther Taylor, Larry and his wife Toni, and Lou Ann and her husband Jim Dawson, all of Wellsburg, WV, Clara and her husband Ted Zatta of Avella, PA, and Bertha Guio of Alpharetta, GA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Jeff, Dean, and Jim Taylor, Laura Matteson, Audra Hanson, Marie Kosut, Matthew and Shannon Taylor, CJ Gottardi, Adam and Gabriel Guio, 12 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Esther Wolfe and Ruth Rossi, both of Warwood, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM and again on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 9:00 until time of Service at 10:00 AM at the Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551, with Pastor Aaron Miller, officiating.

Interment will follow with Military Honors at Short Creek Cemetery, Wheeling, WV with the United States Navy and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William’s name to the Wellsburg Christian Church, 1001 Charles Street, Wellsburg, WV 26070.
