Shirley  Oakes (Huff)
Shirley (Huff) Oakes, 80, of Follansbee, WV, originally of Bethany, WV, passed away at 11:15 AM on Friday, April 22, 2016, Earth Day, at her residence under the care of her family and Valley Hospice with her animals at her side.

Shirley was born on February 26, 1936 in Bethany, WV. She was the daughter of the late John Sherman and Inez (Scott) Huff.

Shirley was a graduate of Bethany High School. She worked as a waitress in Clearwater and St. Augustine, FL. Many will remember Shirley as a kind lover of nature, who enjoyed pets, gardening, bowling and garage sales; but most of all, having a heart of Gold for everyone that she met.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Louis R. Oakes, a daughter, Virginia “Gina” Griffin, a grandson, Stephen E. Girouard Jr., five sisters, Rachel Reed, Evelyn Johnson, Mary Ann Breakey, Ina “Nancy” Huff and Pauline DeTemple, three brothers, Don, John and Alex Huff.

Shirley is survived by seven children, Veronica “Roni” Mayne of Clearwater, FL, Stephaine Wyne and her husband, Michael of Follansbee, WV, Gregory Oakes and his wife, Mary of Augusta, GA, Carol Schembari and her husband, John of New Jersey, Linda Johnson and her husband James of Stafford, Virginia, Valerie Harris and her husband, Jim of Crestview, FL, and Matthew Oakes of West Virginia, 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, a sister, Jessica Hill of Wellsburg, WV, and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM and again on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551, with Reverend Scott Thayer, officiating.

Interment will follow at Bethany Community Cemetery, Bethany, WV, next to her dear husband, Louis.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brooke County Animal Shelter or Puppies Behind Bars Inc.
