Obituary for Norma Pertko (Smith)
Norma (Smith) Pertko, 102, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away at 6:30 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Brightwood Center, Follansbee, WV, after living a full and joyous life.
Norma was born on June 14, 1913 in Wellsburg, WV. She was the daughter of the late August and Clara (Collett) Smith.
Norma retired as a finisher from Crescent Glass, Wellsburg, WV. She was Nazarene by denomination of faith. Over the years, Norma was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Eagles of Follansbee, Women Benefit Association, and the Animal Welfare League.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband, John “Porky” Pertko, a son, John Pertko Jr., a daughter-in-law, Beverly (Johnson) Pertko, a sister, Virginia Byers and two nieces, Clara Lee Sisinni and Jackie Kidd.
Norma is survived by her granddaughter, Jane Ann Pertko of Cheyenne, WY, a nephew, Ronald “Butch” Byers and his wife, Mary of Follansbee, WV, two nieces, Norma “Dottie” Scott and her husband, Willard “Scottie” of Follansbee, WV and Janet Dotson and her husband, James “Jim” of Newell, WV, and several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551.
Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee, WV.
The family of Norma would like to thank the staff at Brightwood Center, Follansbee, WV and Valley Hospice for the never ending care of Norma and treating her like their own family member; but most of all, Dr. Saieed and his staff for always being there for Norma on her journey of life.
