Obituary for Joseph Jackfert

Joseph Jackfert, 101, of Wellsburg, WV passed peacefully away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Ann’s Country Retreat, Wellsburg, WV under the care of the staff and Amedisys Hospice.

Joe was born on March 19, 1915 in Elizabeth, PA. He was the son of the late Joseph and Stella (Marcinek) Jackfert.

Joe served his country proudly in the United States Army during WWII with the rank of Technical Sergeant in Company C in the 201st Infantry Division. He supervised 80 men unloading military supplies from ships onto trucks for delivery to the warehouse of the Quartermaster, in addition to assigning men to specific duties in the Aleutian Islands. Joe retired as a maintenance supervisor at the AEP Cardinal Plant. He was a member of the American Legion, Wellsburg, WV and Sugar Run Lodge, Bethany, WV and the Wellsburg Elks. Many will remember Joe for his dedication and honorable military service, his love of children, and being an avid hunter, gardener and trout fisherman.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Jackfert, five brothers, Melvin, John, and Martin Jackfert, Pete and Frank Marcinek, and two sisters, Helen Cook and Margaret DeVaul.

Joe is survived by three sons, David Jackfert and his wife, Paula of Orland Park, IL, Richard Jackfert and his wife, Nancy of Winter Springs, FL and Jeffrey Jackfert of Wellsburg, WV, two grandchildren, Jenna and Sydney Jackfert, a brother, Edward Jackfert and his wife, Henrietta of Wellsburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 10:00 until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM with Military pass and review at the Chambers Funeral Home, 1030 Main Street, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551, with Reverend Phil Van Dam, officiating.

Military Escort will be led by the WV Patriot Guard to Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, where interment and military honors by the WV Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.

A special note of thanks to the unending care and service of the staff of Ann’s Country Retreat and Amedisys Hospice. Joe and his family appreciated it every day.
