I would text or call Dallas every morning and he would answer me with "What"?? and he would laugh. You crack me up he would say. We would go get my mail at the Post Office, pay my water bill the 3rd of each month, stop at Kroger's and get a pack of Marlboro's and a 20 oz bottle of Pepsi. Sometimes we would stop at the park and talk for hours and hours. He had a lot of pain, physical, mental, and spiritual. See he went for his physical for truck driving and he failed the physical because of high blood pressure so that was the end of his truck driving career. Because of the high blood pressure it affected his kidney's and he only had one kidney functioning. He went from Dr. to Dr. but because he didn't have health insurance finding a Dr. was difficult. He finally got approved for Medicaid and we found a Dr to treat him. He filed for Social Security Benefits because he would never get to drive truck again. It has been 4 years now and he has not received any help from Social Security. He lost everything. He had a house and he felt at least he had a place to lay his head and something to call his own. Eventually his water was shut off, his gas was shut off, but we would go to Salvation Army and sometimes they had enough money left to pay his electric for that month. When winter came he stayed in his house when the temperature dropped below 0 degrees because he had 2 cats and he wanted to keep them warm and he heated one room with kerosene heaters and that is where they stayed. He refused to leave those cats so he did this for 2 winters. Sadly, he had to take his cats to the animal rescue and give them away. One day a man knocks on his door and tells him he must leave his house because he bought it and he wants to fix it up to rent it out. Dallas told this man to get the.........off his porch, but he soon found out this guy bought his house for back taxes and he had to move out and this meant he had nothing left. He changed, he was broken, he hit bottom. He walk with his head down, and he would ask me why this happened to him. Where are all my friends I thought I had? Why won't someone help me? What did I do wrong? I did not have the answers he wanted. All I could say was hang in there and things will get better. It didn't take much to cheer him up, a pack of Marlboro, a Pepsi, and buy his minutes for his phone each month so he could stay in touch with his Son and Daughter and to drive my car once in a while. I am so proud of him. He turned out to be a wonderful, kind, humble man. I miss him so much I can hardly breath. I love you honey, Mom.
