Obituary for Col. Marjorrie Louise Householder

Marjorrie Louise Householder, Colonel, U.S. Air Force (Retired), 85 of Bellefonte, PA, formerly of Ocean Springs, MS and Follansbee, WV passed away peacefully on June 9, 2015, a loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.

Marjorrie was born on November 11, 1929 (Veterans Day) in Steubenville, Ohio to the late Thomas Edward Householder Sr. and Georgianna (Cousins) Householder, Miller.

Marjorrie was a 1947 graduate of Follansbee High School. After graduation she attended the Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated in the last Nurse Cadet Program in 1950. She entered the Air Force Nurse Corps in October 1951 at Ellington Air Force Base, Houston, Texas. During her twenty-seven years of service Col. (ret) Householder was stationed from Maryland to Colorado, North Dakota to Texas along with tours in Japan, England and Germany. Her mother was her companion from 1963 to 1974.

During one of her medical flights from Germany to Maryland she cared for her nephew-in-law, Santo Santoro who happened to be a patient on board. Marge earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Colorado in 1965, and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of Maryland in 1972.

Prior to her retirement in June of 1978, Col. (ret) Householder was a decorated hero as depicted by her numerous metals and honors. Marjorrie's military service awards include: Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, National Defense with Bronze Star and Air Force Longevity Service Award with oak leaf clusters.

Col. Householder was a full command nurse with the Strategic Air Command at Offatt Air Force Base, Omaha, NE. Marjorrie moved to Ocean Spring, MS upon her retirement. In 2005 she lost her home and all material goods to hurricane Katrina and prompted the move to Bellefonte, PA to be close to family. Instead of focusing on her losses, Marge quickly went to work in helping her church Gautier Presbyterian Church to rebuild after the hurricane.

In addition to her parents, Marjorrie was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Jr., James and Louis, a sister Ann Hogg and a niece, Nicci Paris.

Marge is survived and deeply missed by her sister G. Lorraine Hazlett, of Wintersville, OH, sister-in-law, Grace Householder, Linn (Frederick) of Jensen Beach, FL, seven nieces and nephews, Gloria H. Geyer-Zora (Dr. Keith Zora) of Bellefonte, PA, Kathy Santoro (Santo) of Follansbee, WV, Allen Kent Householder (Darla) of Weirton, WV, Richard Hazlett (Wanda) of Have Lock, NC, Ray Hazlett of Winchester, VA, Jimmy L. Householder (Susan) of Summerville, SC, and Richard Hogg (Paula) of Burlington, WV, numerous great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews, a great, great, great niece and nephew and many friends located all over the world.

Marge was always an active counsel to all her nieces and nephew and never more than a phone call away. Marge was a life member to American Legion Auxiliary, Jefferson County Salon 807 of the 8/40, and The Society of Air Force Nurses, and Spring Creek Presbyterian Church. In addition Marge loved the game of golf, followed her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints. During her life achievements she developed into a great leader, beloved friend and a heck of a lot of fun.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 10:00 until time of Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main Street, Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717 with nephew, The Reverend Richard Hogg II, officiating. The Wintersville American Legion will conduct a farewell ceremony at the funeral home prior to our departure to the interment. \

Military escort by the WV Patriot Guard Riders to the interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton, WV, with Full Military Honors by United States Air Force Honor Guard, Wintersville American Legion, and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
