Wilda P. (Stephens) Freeland, 83 of Wheeling, WV, was called home to meet the Lord at 9:30 PM on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Valley Haven Geriatric Center, Beech Bottom, WV.

Wilda was born on September 6, 1933 in Wheeling, WV. She was the daughter of the late Ira V. and Jennie (VanCamp) Stephens.

Wilda was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a graduate of the Art Institute and attended West Liberty State College. Wilda was a lifelong artist, fashion illustrator, seamstress and teacher. She worked for the former Stone and Thomas, Wheeling for 17 years as their Fashion Illustrator. In addition to her job, Wilda had an art studio at her home painting primarily Oil Portraits. The oil paintings were displayed and sold locally and also around the country and throughout museums. She taught art classes at her studio and the Oglebay Institute with involvement in many local art associations. Wilda studied art frequently with many world masters throughout the United States including New York City, NY, Kennebunkport, MA and Cape Cod, MS . Many will remember Wilda for her timeless art that was full of beauty, skill, and grace.

In addition to her parents, Wilda was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene N. Freeland, and a brother, Conrad Stephens.

Wilda is survived by her two children, Eric C. Freeland of Wellsburg, WV and Lori A. (Kenneth) Siburt of Wheeling, WV, four grandchildren, Hilary Freeland of Wheeling, WV, Jennifer (Vishal) Khelaman of New York, NY, Michael (Steven Wood) Vaughn of Washington, PA and Matthew Siburt of Lexington Park, MD, three great grandchildren, Alana Nicole, Shila Grace, and Victor Eugene, a sister, Dorothy “Dottie” S. Moore and Karl “Doug” Stephens, both of Wellsburg, WV, and several nieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM and on Monday, August 28, 2017 from 12 Noon until time of Memorial Service 1:00 PM at the Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551 with Minister Daniel Reugg, officiating.

In accordance with Wilda’s wishes, her body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at WVU.
