Heyward “Griz” Homer Grizzle, 95 of Wellsburg, WV, passed away at 12:55 AM on Friday, February 2, 2018 at OVMC, Wheeling, WV.

Heyward was born on March 16, 1922 in Dahlonega, GA. He was the son of the late Jason Henry and Mary Lucinda (Moose) Grizzle.

Heyward was a decorated soldier in the United States Army during WWII. He retired after 50 years of service as a State Inspector in Auto Mechanics. Many will remember Griz for working at Russ Craft Service, Weirton, WV, being an avid gardener, watching the birds and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Heyward was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Elizabeth (Young) Grizzle, a son, David Randall Grizzle, two sisters and six brothers.

Heyward is survived by his three children, Dennis (JoAnn) Grizzle of Frederick, MD, Rebecca (Harley) Lemasters and Kymberly Eames, all of Wellsburg, WV, and a daughter-in-law, Kim and the late David Grizzle of Brunswick, MD. Eight grandchildren, Denny Jr., Tressa (Matt), Shawneen, Jessica, Andrew (Amy), Sophie, James (Heather), Elizabeth and six great grandchildren, Hannah, Jackson, Sawyer, Brant, Marina, and Julia. Two great great grandchildren, Jayden and Easton and many nieces and nephews.

Private Veteran’s Cremation will be under the care of Chambers Funeral Home, Wellsburg, WV (304) 737-3551. Interment will be private at Kadesh Chapel Cemetery.
