Obituary for Master Sergeant Harold Campbell Jr., USAF Retired

Master Sergeant Harold Campbell Jr., USAF Retired, 87, of Follansbee, WV, passed away at 3:20 AM on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Liza’s Place – Valley Hospice Care Center South, Wheeling, WV.

Harold was born on February 25, 1931 in Wellsburg, WV. He was the son of the late Harold Orion and Mable Emma (Crawford) Campbell.

Harold served his country proudly in the United States Navy before transferring to the United States Air Force. During his service, Harold received the rank of Master Sergeant with numerous medals including, Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct with Bronze Clasp with three Loops, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. Upon returning to civilian life, Harold worked at Homer Laughlin as a screen printer for 15 years. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 45 Emrys Watkins, where he served as President. Many will remember Harold for his service to his country, working out, writing poetry, reading books, enjoyment of yard work, and the love of nature; but most of all, his dedication and devotion to his family.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Anne (Johnston) Campbell , second wife, Theresa Ann (Figurski) Campbell, and a sister, Katherine.

Harold is survived by his five children, Sharron Larrison and her husband, Tom of San Antonio, TX, Anita Williams of Steubenville, OH, Michelle Campbell of Weirton, WV, Kristina Rogers and her husband, Michael of Childersburg, AL, and Harold Campbell of Follansbee, WV, five grandchildren, Christopher Blackston of Steubenville, OH, Erycka Gardner and her husband, Justin, Jaymee Baxley, all of Texas, Axl Larrison of Oklahoma and Brandon Larrison of North Dokata, two great grandchildren, Lillian Rose and Francis Drake Gardner, two sisters, Goldie Looman of Weirton, WV and Beverly Young of Florida, two four legged companions, Cicero and Bowser, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 10:00 until time of Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717 with his daughter, Sharron Larrison, USAF Retired, officiating.

Military Escort will be provided by the WV Patriot Guard to his interment at St. John Cemetery, Colliers, WV with Military Honors by the United States Air Force.
