Lucile Taylor (Meriwether) Way, 99, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Lucile was born on April 23, 1919 in New Providence, TN, a suburb now absorbed by Clarksville, TN. She was the daughter of the late Nicholas Hunter Meriwether and Lucile (Taylor) Meriwether.

In addition to her parents, Lucile was preceded in death by her half-brothers, Nicholas and Robert Meriwether, six brothers and sisters, Ross Meriwether, Martha Miller, Eleanor Anderson, Lucy Mai Fleming Camp, twins, James and John Meriwether.

While living in Tennessee, Lucile met William Maurice Way, who was stationed at then Camp, now Fort Campbell, KY, at the beginning of World War II. She followed him back to his hometown of Weirton, WV. Lucile lived with his parents, Manuel C. and Linnie O. Way, while he was in Germany during the war. They married in 1946 and built a house in Follansbee, WV. They lived in Follansbee until she moved to Pittsburgh, PA , four years after William’s passing in 2006.

Lucile earned a bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay University in Clarksville, TN and taught Science and Math in the Brooke County Public School System throughout her career. She enjoyed genealogy research, fishing, gardening and was an avid fan of Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball. She believed that the Lord lets us stay here as long as we are useful. She was much more than useful and we were surprised to see her leave us so soon. Lucile will be dearly missed by her loving family.

Lucile is survived by her four children, Barbara (Arthur) Stewart of Pittsburgh, PA, William (Cathy) Way of Lumberport, WV, Audrey Campbell of Jacksonville, FL, Henry (Pamela) Way of Elmhurst, IL, seven grandchildren, Brendan (Ladan) Stewart, Christopher (Jessica Beres) Way, twins, Kendra (Kalob) McCaffrey and Kayla (Jason) Burnside, Amanda (David Finley) Campbell, David (Jackie Chen) Way and Andrew Way, three great grandchildren, Rhys and Riley Stewart, Kane McCaffrey and many nieces and nephews, who knew her as Aunt Totsy, after the childhood nickname given her for being such a tiny tot.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717. Interment will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery, New Cumberland, WV.
