George William Ragan, 90 of Wellsburg, WV, passed away at 9:41 PM on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at his residence with his family at his side.

George was born on March 13, 1928 in Mingo Junction, OH. He was the son of the late Martin Alvin and Suzanne (Ubrin) Ragan.

George served proudly in the United States Marine Corps during WWII and then in the Reserves. He was a member of the Follansbee Presbyterian Church, Wellsburg Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star serving as Worthy Grand Patron, and the Marine Corps Club. Many will remember George for his speed of running in baseball and football; but most of all, the time with the Marine Corps and the Eastern Star.

IN addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his infant son, Martin Ragan, a brother, Martin "Kinko" Ragan, killed in action in WWII on the Tinian Island, three sisters, LaVonne Balint, Suzanne Carrasco and Anna Mae Saunders.

George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maxine (Gurtner) Ragan of Wellsburg, WV, two daughters, Lauralee Ragan of Wellsburg, WV and Kimberly Ann Ragan of Follansbee, WV, two granddaughters, Tiffanie Lee Diserio of Wellsburg, WV and Aemelianna Jane Ragan of Follansbee, WV, four great grandchildren, Raegann Pellen, Madison Ingram, Jacek Handley, and Jilli-ann Ragan, a brother, Donald E. Regan of Wellsburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 PM and again on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717 with Pastor Frank Haas, officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Follansbee with Military Honors by the United States Marine Corps and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
