Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Emma Gardei can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Emma Kathryn "Katy" Gardei (Brown)

Emma Kathryn (Brown) Gardei, 95, of Colliers, WV, passed away 5:40 AM on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Valley Haven Geriatric Center, Beech Bottom, WV.

Katy was born on March 14, 1920 in Colliers, WV. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Louella (Fox) Brown.

She worked in the payroll department of Colliers Steel before serving as a Corporal in the United States Army in the Women Army Corps during World War II. Katy was a member of the colliers Christian Church, Colliers, Home Makers, Kings Daughters and Sons in Steubenville, OH, Brooke County Senior Center, Follansbee American Legion and ta former member of the United Methodist Women.

In addition to her parents, Katy was preceded in death by her husband, David Luther Gardei, a son, David W. Gardei, two brothers, Harry and Bill Brown, and a sister, Jeanne (Brown) Kotouch.

Kathryn is survived by her son Dean Gardei (Charles Raymond) of Baltimore, MD, a daugher-in-law, Weezie Gardei of Springhill, TN, two grandchildren, Steve and Stacy two sisters, Audrae Bingiel of Colliers, WV and Harriet (Brown) Hinchcliffe of Richmond, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 and again on October 15, 2015 from 10:00 until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main Street, Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717) with Evangelist Earl Bailey Sr., officiating.

Military Escort by the WV Patriot Guard to the interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Weirton, WV, with Military Honors by the WV Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
