John "Jack" Howard  Carey Sr.
John “Jack” Howard Carey Sr., 87, of Follansbee, WV, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 3:50 AM peacefully with his dear family by his side after a sudden and short illness.

Jack was born on July 4, 1929 in Wellsburg, WV. He was the son of the late Alec and Pauline (Arthurs) Carey.

Jack retired from Koppers in 1994. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a Corporal. Jack received a Korean Service Medal with 4 bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the award winning Four Freshman Barbershop Quartet and for 60 years in the Barbershop organization S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. Jack served his faith by being a part of the church as a lay speaker, Sunday School Teacher, youth leader, worship leader and many other facets. Over the years, he was a member of the Wellsburg Church of the Nazarene, but most recently was a member of the Follansbee Church of Christ. Jack will be remembered for his coffee pot welcoming everyone, songs, laughter, Spaghetti night, sense of humor, magic tricks, famous chili, but most of all, for being a true family man.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his son, David Carey on March 18, 2006, four brothers, Alec, Billy, Harold and Paul Carey, two sisters, Mary Lou Ross and Donna Mae Ennis.

Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mabel (Beagle) Carey of Follansbee, WV, who were married on December 18, 1951, three children, John Carey of Florida, Joyce Mason and her husband, Doug, and LuAnn Radcliffe and her husband, Jonathan, a daughter-in-law, Lynn Carey ,all of Follansbee, WV, seven grandchildren, Jason Carey and his wife, Amanda, Teresa Kelley and her husband, Brian, Christine Elson and her husband, Kevin, Douglas Mason and his wife, Courtney, Trent Radcliffe, Jackson Carey, and J.T. Radcliffe, five great grandchildren, Andrew and Jayden Carey, Kelsey and Kayla Elson and Jude Mason, and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717 with his pastors and friends, Bill and Dan Cooper, officiating.

Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV, next to his dear son, with military honors by the WV Army National Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
