Obituary for Jack Morgan Skidmore Sr.

Jack Morgan Skidmore Sr., 77, of Follansbee, WV, passed away at 6:49 PM on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Acuity Specialty Hospital, Weirton, WV.

Jack was born on February 9, 1940 in Elkins, WV. He was the son of the late Cloyd and Mary (Yeager) Skidmore.

Jack served proudly in the United States Coast Guard. He was a graduate of the former West Liberty State College where he earned a BA in Special Education and had additional studies towards his Master Degree. Jack was a member of the Full Gospel Church of the Apostolic Faith in Wellsburg, WV. He worked numerous places including having a Barber Shop in Follansbee in 1960 and teaching for the Newell and Brooke County School Districts, but most known for being the owner/operator of the Bluegrass Barber Shop in Weirton, WV. Many will remember Jack for his time and dedication he put into each haircut as well as his knowledge of daily events and politics through heartfelt discussions; but most of all, being a musician and a painter with numerous stories.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his two sons, Mark Skidmore in 2014 and Jeffrey Skidmore in 2015, a grandson, Cristian Dane Skidmore in 2014 and a brother, Charles Skidmore.

Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie (Sanza) Skidmore of Follansbee, WV, three children, Eric (Lisa) Skidmore of Toronto, OH, Jack Jr. (Missy) Skidmore of Bloomingdale, OH, and Nicole (George III) Parkinson of Douglassville, PA, a daughter-in-law, Vickie Skidmore of Steubenville, OH, and 5 grandchildren, Kaila, Sierra, and Gabriella Skidmore and Ava and George IV Parkinson, a sister, Mary Lynn (John) Fessler of Beverly, WV, four brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeff and Bill Sanza, Marion Kitty and Kathy Sanza, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM and again on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717 with Pastor David Colvin of the Full Gospel Church of the Apostolic Faith, officiating.

Interment will follow with Military Honors by the United States Coast Guard and the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, WV.
